The 10th Annual Rosemary Gardens Neighborhood Picnic "Summer Luau" is scheduled for Sunday, September 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the playground area of Bachrodt School. We will have food, BINGO, children's games, entertainment and a special gift. There will also be a donation drawing. Come out, relax, and enjoy a day in the sun and fresh air with the entire neighborhood.
The RGNA will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and drinks. Please bring a salad, appetizer, vegetable dish, side dish, fruit plate or dessert to share with your friends and neighbors.
The donation drawing is our biggest fund raiser of the year. Volunteers will be selling tickets for the drawing. The proceeds from the ticket sales go to pay for neighborhood events like the Annual Picnic, National Night Out, Easter Bunny Parade, "Here Comes Santa", Star Party, etc. Prizes will include gift certificates, tickets to sporting events, museum passes, theatre tickets and more! There will be hula dancers and a D.J. running games to entertain the kids.
Mark your calendars today!
Saturday, October 4th
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
It may be fall, but it's still not too late to do some spring cleaning. Here's a great chance to make some extra money and clean out the garage! On Saturday, October 4th, from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m., the Rosemary Gardens Neighborhood will be having its second Neighborhood Yard Sale of the year.
Sell your own stuff in your own yard and let the RGNA do the advertising for you. The RGNA places ads in the San Jose Mercury News Classified section, the PennySaver magazine, Downtown magazine and other neighborhood newsletters. We also post signs at various locations in San Jose, and advertise on the web.
To offset the cost of advertising, we charge $2 from each house participating in the yard sale. An RGNA representative will stop by your house on the day of the sale to collect.
What a great deal!

DO YOU KNOW WERE YOUR CAT IS?
If you do not, then you should think about the following before you let it out that door.
CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING HAZARDS TO OUTDOOR CATS:
* Outdoor cats get injured by fighting with other animals. They will require more medical care than indoor cats for abscesses, bite wounds or torn ears. (Think $$veterinary costs$$).
* Outdoor cats often get hit by cars.
* Outdoor cats can get caught and seriously injured in the fan belt of a car as they try to find warm spots in the cold weather.
* Outdoor cats can be poisoned.
* Outdoor cats are exposed to serious diseases such as infectious feline anemia, upper respiratory disease or rabies.
* Outdoor cats often pick up parasites, which can threaten their health and yours.
* Outdoor cats cannot "fend" for themselves. Domestic cats depend on humans for food and shelter.
Information for this article was taken from the Humane Society of Silicon Valley website at http://www.hssv.org. The phone number is (408) 727-3383. For more information on what you can do to keep your cats healthy and happy check under 'Cats' at this website.
If you see an animal in danger or hurt, call Animal Control at (408) 501-2130.

* August 15th: Keoncrest and Gish - vehicle break-in, laptop computer stolen
* Early August: Ferarri near San Juan - house burglary, loose change, 22 Ruger handgun stolen
* July 29th: Keoncrest and Sonora - vehicle break-in, car stereo stolen
* July 4th weekend: Rosemary and San Pedro - house burglary, video games, video game unit, loose change and other small items stolen
Please note: Because of the types of items stolen in the two house burglaries, the SJPD feel that this is the work of a youth that lives in our neighborhood. This individual knows our schedules and our routines. If you see anything suspicious, please call 911.
In the coming months, several local restaurants will donate 15% of your bill back to the RGNA on specific nights. This is a great way to get out and enjoy some of our local cuisine and support the RGNA and our local businesses at the same time.
Baja Fresh will be hosting a RGNA Dine Out Night from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th. Be sure to tell your waiter or waitress that you are from Rosemary Gardens.
Watch for fliers around the neighborhood, for articles in the newsletter or check the RGNA website at http://rgna.tripod.com announcing future Dine Out Nights! Thanks and Bon Appetite!
A benefit tournament held on Columbus Day weekend will raise funds toward the restor- ation and beautification of San Jose's oldest public bocce courts. Dine on authentic Italian cuisine and wine provided by some of the area's best Italian restaurateurs at a VIP reception.
For information on sponsorship opportunities and tournament play contact Jose Posadas at (408) 298-4851.
For the fifth year in a row, the RGNA once again sponsored this year's successful National Night Out, but this year's event took on a greater sense of importance in the wake of the recent rise of break-ins in the neighborhood. Approximately 200 residents attended this year's event, eating ice cream, meeting new neighbors, and talking with the fire fighters from fire station #5.
The RGNA would like to thank our volunteers who help make this event a success.

Will the state budget problems affect or stop the scheduled completion of the I-880 or 87?
According to Lauren Wonder, Public Liaison for CalTrans, and Brandi Hall, Public Communication Specialist for VTA, the answer is no. The funds for the project were allocated and secured before the budget problems. Project 87 is on schedule and the I-880 Widening Project is due to be completed by mid-October 2003.
Where can I get a copy the Downtown Magazine?
You can find your free copy of San Jose's Downtown Magazine at our neighborhood coffee shop, It's A Grind.
When is the park going to be opened?
"Rosemary Gardens Park" is now open thanks to the persistance of Staff Member Sue Eakins from Councilmember's Cindy Chavez' office. Sue contacted Supervisor Pete McHugh's Office for help because the title documents seemed to be stuck with the County Recorder's Office. With his help, the documents were signed, sealed and delivered and the park is now open and ours to enjoy. Thank you Sue!
